Verification · Technical verification

Every level, explained.

Technical verification walks through each level of testing a deposit, what evidence each produces, and how to match the depth to your risk. It is never automatic.

Evidence per level

From a listing to a full build.

Each level confirms something more about the deposit, and each one leaves a documented artifact behind. That artifact is the evidence you would hold if you ever had to recover.

Verification levelsMore depth, more evidence
LevelWhat it confirmsEvidence produced
Level 1
Deposit inspection
Materials were received and recorded, with chain of custody established.
Dated receipt and custody record
Level 2
File-listing verification
An inventory of the deposit contents, so you know what files are actually present.
Inventory report of every file present
Level 3
Deposit analysis
A review of completeness and structure against what a rebuild would need.
Completeness review of gaps and structure
Level 4
Build verification
The deposited materials compile using the documented build instructions.
Build log of a successful compile
Level 5
Binary comparison
The build output matches the production binary you actually run.
Binary-match report against production
Level 6
Test-plan verification
The built software runs and passes a defined test plan.
Test-plan result of the software running

Verification is chosen per deposit and matched to risk. EscrowTech does not compile and run every deposit by default; the top of the ladder is never standard or automatic.

Match to risk

Match the depth to your risk.

There is no single right level. The right one is whatever your recovery would actually demand, no more and no less.

Start from what you would have to do if the vendor disappeared tomorrow. The harder that recovery, the further up the levels it is worth going, because each step up produces stronger evidence and costs more.

01
Start from recovery, not the deposit
The level follows from what recovery would take, not from how large the deposit happens to be. A small deposit can still carry a lot of risk.
02
Lower levels record, higher levels prove
A file listing tells you what is there; a build or test plan shows it works. Buy proof where you would actually need it, and a record where you would not.
03
More depth, more evidence, more cost
Each level up leaves a stronger artifact and costs more. You pay for the depth your risk justifies, not a flat package that over- or under-covers.
04
A choice, never a default
You pick the level for each deposit. The top of the ladder is never applied automatically, so nothing about your recovery is assumed on your behalf.

Higher levels cost more because they produce more evidence, and none of them is automatic. We recommend a level based on what you have deposited and what recovery would demand.

Deposits are held in two physical, US-based vaults, one inside a granite mountain, monitored around the clock. The provider has to satisfy the people who approve the deal, and EscrowTech is the one their legal teams already recognize.

FAQ

Verification, explained.

The questions licensees, vendors, and their counsel ask about testing a deposit.

What is technical verification of an escrow deposit?

Technical verification is the work of checking what an escrow deposit actually contains and how far it would take you toward recovery, from confirming the files are present to proving the software builds and runs. It walks through levels, and each level produces evidence you could rely on if you ever needed the deposit.

What are the verification levels?

They form a sequence: deposit inspection, file-listing verification, deposit analysis, build verification, binary comparison, and test-plan verification. Each level produces more evidence than the one below it, and each costs more. You choose the depth your risk and recovery requirements justify.

What evidence does each level produce?

Every level produces a documented artifact. Deposit inspection produces a dated receipt and custody record; file-listing verification an inventory of what is present; deposit analysis a completeness review; build verification a build log; binary comparison a binary-match report; and test-plan verification a test-plan result. The artifact is what you hold, not just a claim that the deposit is fine.

Is verification automatic on every deposit?

No. Verification is a menu of options matched to your risk and recovery requirements, chosen per deposit. EscrowTech does not compile and run every deposit by default; the top of the ladder is never standard or automatic.

How do I choose the right level?

Match the depth to your risk and recovery requirements. A record of what was deposited suits a lower level; mission-critical software you would have to rebuild and run suits a higher one. We recommend a level based on what you have deposited and what recovery would actually demand.

What is build verification versus a file listing?

A file listing inventories what is in the deposit, so you know the files are present. Build verification goes further and compiles those files using the documented instructions to confirm they produce the software. One checks that something is there; the other checks that it works.

How long does verification take?

It depends on the level. A deposit inspection or file listing is quick; a build, binary comparison, or test-plan verification takes longer because the materials are compiled and exercised. We scope the timeline to the level you choose before the work begins.

How is verification priced?

Technical verification starts at $295, custom-priced to your structure and the level you choose. Higher levels produce more evidence and cost more, so you pay for the depth your risk justifies rather than a flat package. See pricing for how it scales.
