Resilience your regulators will accept.

Banks, insurers, and the fintechs that serve them have to evidence operational resilience for critical software. Escrow is the control regulators name, and we document it the way DORA, FFIEC, and SEC 17a-4 expect.

Regulatory frameworks

The frameworks forcing resilience.

Financial regulation names software escrow more than any other sector. One control, read as evidence against every regime you answer to.

How it works here

Evidence, not assertion.

Software escrow for financial services turns a dependency into documented evidence, recorded in the language your framework uses.

When the examiner asks how you manage the dependency, you hand over records, not a promise that something exists somewhere. Release language is drafted to fire across the borders a cross-border group operates in.

  • The escrow agreement and neutral role
  • The deposit log and update history
  • The release conditions
  • The verification report
  • A documented chain of custody
  • Framework mapping for each regime

Verification is matched to your risk and reported as evidence. It is not automatic on every deposit, and the top of the ladder is never standard or included by default. See verification →  ·  See compliance →

Service fit

What fits a financial deposit.

The depth that produces evidence a well-funded vendor-risk team will accept as recoverable.

Source code Build scripts & toolchain Environment & configuration Credentials & keys Framework-aligned records Documented chain of custody

Core banking and payments, insurance and claims, wealth and brokerage, and fintech selling into banks all deposit a different stack. The scope is set to what your examiners and vendor-risk teams read as recoverable. See verification options →

Storage & proof

Two vaults. One in a granite mountain.

Deposits are held in two physical, US-based vaults, one inside a granite mountain, monitored around the clock. The provider has to satisfy the people who approve the deal, and EscrowTech is the one their legal teams already recognize.

FAQ

Financial escrow, answered.

The questions compliance, risk, and vendor-management teams in regulated finance ask most often.

What is software escrow for financial services?

Software escrow for financial services places a vendor's source code and the materials needed to rebuild critical software with a neutral third party, released only on agreed conditions. For banks, insurers, and fintechs, it is the control regulators name when they ask how you evidence operational resilience for the software you depend on.

Which regulations name software escrow or resilience?

DORA, Article 28(8), requires documented, tested exit strategies for critical ICT services and has applied since January 2025. US FFIEC and interagency third-party guidance set examiner expectations to oversee and validate such arrangements. SEC Rule 17a-4 uses a Designated Third Party for broker-dealer records. NYDFS Part 500 and the UK's PRA SS2/21 add third-party and exit-plan requirements.

How does escrow evidence operational resilience?

A verified escrow arrangement is documentable proof that you can keep or recover critical software if a vendor fails. You hand an examiner the agreement, the deposit log, the release conditions, and the verification report, not a promise that something exists somewhere.

What does a financial-services deposit include?

Source code, build scripts and toolchain, dependencies, environment and configuration, credentials and keys, and documentation, plus a documented chain of custody. The depth is set to what a well-funded vendor-risk team will accept as recoverable.

Is verification required, and is it automatic?

Verification is a menu of options matched to your risk, not something EscrowTech runs on every deposit by default. The top of the ladder, a full build and run, is never standard or automatic. You choose the level, and we report it as evidence.

Where are deposits stored, and in which jurisdiction?

Deposits are held in two physical, US-based vaults, one carved into a granite mountain and monitored around the clock. Where jurisdiction is part of your requirement, US-based storage and release language drafted for the borders your group operates in both matter.

Who holds the deposit and stays neutral?

EscrowTech holds the deposit as a neutral third party and administers the escrow agreement only. Our in-house counsel drafts that agreement and does not decide the underlying dispute or the commercial contract between you and the vendor.

How do we set up escrow as a resilience control?

Tell us which frameworks you report under and which software dependencies are in scope. EscrowTech drafts the escrow agreement, takes the deposit, and documents verification to the level you choose, then maps the control to each regime so one arrangement answers many.

Make it safe to depend on.

Tell us which frameworks you answer to. We'll map software escrow to them and document the control.
